It looks like the TCU just hooks up to the CAN bus so I might not even need a new shifter. Then pair the TCU to the car and tell the TCU to go into drive either using the existing selector or with a ESM from a 7g car. I just need to redirect the wiring from the current TCU to the TCU in the gearbox - in theory just bypass the existing TCU The box should bolt in and hook up physically. Genuinely curious, what do you anticipate being the problem or causing the expense? I think the car might be warning me away from fiddling though, "transfer case - visit dealer" warning popped up today.

If it doesn't work on a cheap box then I can just sell on the box for a small hit and the cost of fiddling. If it does but I end up stripping the gears with the torque then I'll send it off to have it strengthened. I'm going to source one, on the cheap and see if it works. It looks like it might work, but the big IF is marrying the 722.9 TCU and ESM up to a car which was supplied with a 722.6 from the factory.

I've still not tackled the shift lever module - ESM - which tells the TCU what the driver is asking for (auto, sport, comfort, manual overide etc) which I'm sure won't be compatible with a 722.6 ESM so I'll also need the ESM from the donor car.

I need to be able to code in the SCN, and then marry the gearbox to the car. This is hard apparently as even swapping 722.9's between cars causes big issues. The question still remains, can the 722.9 TCU be coded into the vehicle in place of the vehichle in place of the 722.6 TCU?

This means that some work will be needed on the wiring, which opens up the question of where is the TCM in the G55 and what does it plug into? I need to look into this, if the TCU just has CAN in and then does all of the rest of the talking between itself and the 722.6 this should be something that can be overcome.įinally, assuming that the wiring works and it physically fits then I'll have a 722.9 hooked up and wired in but not coded. Next, The TCU is now built into the gearbox and as a result the connector is different to the 772.6: It's unlikely I'll find one of these for sensible money so I'm looking for a V8, Ideally from an AMG with speedshift. W7A 400 rated to 400nm (295lbft) fitted to 4/6 cylinder.Īt some point the turbo AMG 63's seem to have got an even more robust box as they are outputting 760nm.

It appears there are 2 versions of the box from the begining->. Please note that: this process has been proven and tested on cars with VGS2 and newer only.Got a bit further with the theory side here. (I use a LAN cable with my C4 for this just to make sure complete programming will be successfully done ? >enter the original EHS# from control unit version sheet you printed at the very beginning of job. >control unit version, make sure your EHS# matches the original from the control unit version page you printed out, just the EHS# must match, If it does not match goto è development data. >follow the next steps(it will say that not all coding can be exchanged….(its ok) after you plug back in and it transfers coding it will say not all data could be exchanged, do you want to do manual settings now? say later/NO

>Go into development data in ETC->control unit adaptations->Read coding and/or transfer download data to new control unit >Plug in old control module to car(I let it hang from connector)

Transfer SCN coding and EHS# you saved into the virgin VGS
